The Meaning of Magic.

Magic is an indescribable feeling.

describing the indescribable, and having fun doing it.

(13th May 2020 - Part 1 of 3)

Magic has many connotations and descriptions associated with it, which causes issues in trying to describe it when prompted. It encapsulates the act of magic such as making things appear or disappear, some believe in magical witches and wizards, it also includes spells and motions but magic is also a feeling. Magic is an indescribable feeling of warmth from within. When I asked the homies to describe magic to me they described it as dope-ass-unexplainable-fun-shit-that-makes-you-say-wow, but the wow is internal.

Oxford Dictionary describes magic as the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces. Collins Dictionary describes magic as  the power to use supernatural forces to make impossible things happen, such as making people disappear or controlling events in nature. Merriam Webster Dictionary describes magic as an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source.

How would you describe? Well,  to me the word Magic encompasses so many traits for only one-word, five letters, and two syllables. Magic is that zest in life, magic is wonder, magic is discovery, magic is love, magic is warmth, ,magic is everything, magic is needed, magic is colours, magic is missing, magic is upbringing, magic is draining and chasing magic may be hazardous, magic brightens life, magic is disbelief, magic isn’t just a magician pulling a rabbit out of this hat and most importantly real magic can’t be seen, only felt. Magic isn’t just amazing unknowns, it's warm fuzzy feelings and fleeting moments.

So many people get consumed by magic and sometimes what they pull out of the deck isn’t the right card. To me, magic is that indescribable feeling when I am front left savagely gripping a rail, headbanging so hard my head is sent to the aliens.

Magic is dinosaurs. Magic is changing your appearance, when you don’t feel at place among the world.  Magic is finding an alternative to bleeding from my thighs. Magic is seeing someone talking about something they love, and witnessing their face and whole being glow.  (Side note: if you cut anyone off, when they are glowing. I will continue to ignore you because I’ve seen so many glowing people dim because some had to yell leshgoooooo or talk over them). Magic is when the first glimpse of sunrise comes over the hilltop on sunday, and I am no way ready for sleep yet. Magic is when someone tells me “I’m proud of you, Mini”. Magic is random video chats, just because they missed talking to you. Magic is goofy selfies sent from the homies, when they know you are sad. Magic is getting tagged in a meme, that you haven’t seen yet. Magic is rewatching The Land Before Time series, like I did as a kid. Magic is sitting in front of a screen with premiere pro opened for 12 hours, creating beautiful forms of art. (I like to think they are beautiful anyways.) Magic is random nights that turn into life-time memories. Magic is climbing trees and scaling walls. Magic is running it straight through my homie's soul. Magic is free summer sessions and kick-ons.

Magic is throwing myself off a rock, in the attempt to perfect the MANU. Magic is takeaway nights with the family.  Magic is that indescribable feeling of discovering a new favourite song, that I ruin in three days by non-stop playing. Magic is getting lost in a book, I thought I’d hate.  Magic is sitting in a deck-hair stroking a black cat while sipping on raro that was made a little too sweet. Magic is when I find something that speaks to me like this line from Iris - Goo Goo Dolls.

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

Magic is that indescribable feeling where for maybe only a second, everything feels at peace in the world. Magic is the realisation of not crumbling, in a usual crumble-town situation. Magic is finally feeling like you’ve found your place, in this scary, crazy and wild world. Magic is knowing there is a future, when you don’t currently see one. Magic is empowering. Magic is freeing, it made me start believing in myself again, and look towards the stars for inspiration. Magic is a reason to live again. Magic can be easily brought, but the best type of magic is free.
